Dapper Day at Disney is Coming! Are You Ready?

Published

on

It’s hard to imagine Disneyland embracing whimsy any more than they already have; but every Mouseketeer knows that the best day to visit the House of Mouse in Anaheim, Orlando, or Paris is during Dapper Day.

With the slogan, “stepping out in style”, this biannual celebration attracts over 30,000 ladies and gents, dressed in heaps of tulle, sharp waistcoats, and Minnie themed polka dot dresses with matching cat-eye sunglasses.

There is no age-limit or “designated look” in order to participate, but founder Justin Jorgensen advices attendees to “dress to impress.” Many come inspired by 1920’s fashion, which they deem the epitome of dapper. This growing event has even attracted the Disneybounders, who have mixed the themes of sophisticated garb with color-blocking their favorite animated characters.

What started in February 2011 with a mere 100 well-dressed guests has now expanded to included not only three different theme-parks, but a Dapper Day Expo, featuring original clothing designers, a dance floor to learn swing, and a wet shave stand for that pristine cut.

Although The Happiest Place On Earth has not officially sanctioned the dashing affair, on every Dapper Day guests are treated with Mickey Mouse walking around in his Dapper Dans ensemble (the barbershop quartet outfit from Main Street). Discounted rates for participants at rooms in Disney-hotels are also available.

Despite these small signs of acknowledgement to Dapper devotees, it maybe unlikely that this fast expanding meetup will ever receive the seal-of-approval due to the park’s strict rules on adults not wearing costumes. Rules for inclusion into the soirée explicitly exclude cosplay or costuming, but that doesn’t mean that people don’t try to push the mouse-eared envelope.

The closest any grown-Disney fanatic will have to feeling like a prince or princess at the park is through dapper attire. As the event continues to flourish, it somehow has maintained its ability to provide charm and connectivity among the Disney community. Suave supporters will see the next Dapper Day taking over Disneyland in Anaheim on Sunday, April 23, 2017.

“Sakamoto Days” is a 2025 anime series streaming on Netflix, adapted from Yūto Suzuki’s popular manga serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump since 2020. The series offers a unique blend of action, comedy, and crime, delivering an engaging narrative that balances high-octane sequences with heartfelt moments.

The story centers on Tarō Sakamoto, once the most feared hitman in the underworld. After falling in love, he retires, gains weight, and leads a peaceful life as a convenience store owner. However, his tranquil existence is disrupted when his past catches up with him, forcing Sakamoto to confront old enemies while protecting his family and livelihood.

“Sakamoto Days” excels in blending humor with intense action sequences. The protagonist’s dual life as a devoted family man and a former assassin provides a fresh take on the genre. The animation quality is commendable, with dynamic fight scenes and expressive character designs that capture the essence of the original manga.

Critics have praised the series for its energetic pacing and engaging storyline. Mariló Delgado of Espinof notes that the series begins with “blasts, flying kicks, and incredibly dynamic choreographies.” John Serba of Decider highlights its “undeniably energetic, fast-paced, loony in tone and visually appealing” nature.

However, some fans have expressed concerns regarding the adaptation’s faithfulness to the manga, particularly in action scenes and omitted comedic elements. Discussions about a potential remake have emerged within the fan community.

Considering its engaging plot, strong character development, and high-quality animation, “Sakamoto Days” earns a solid 8 out of 10. While it has minor shortcomings, the series offers a delightful experience for both action enthusiasts and those seeking a heartfelt story about redemption and family.
